Grammy-Award Winning Artist Eliane Elias Comes To Bailey Hall

Posted On: December 28th, 2016

Known for her distinctive and immediately recognizable musical style which blends her Brazilian roots and sensuous, alluring voice with her impressive instrumental jazz, classical and compositional skills, Eliane Elias takes the stage at Bailey Hall on Friday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Made in Brazil, Elias’ new release, was awarded a GRAMMY® Award in the category of “Best Latin Jazz Album” on February 15, 2016 and marks a musical homecoming. In her three-decade long career as a solo artist, it results from the first time she’s recorded a disc in her native Brazil since moving to the United States in 1981.

Elias has released 23 albums to date that demonstrate her unique gifts as a pianist, singer, composer and arranger while showcasing her immense talents in jazz, pop, classical and Brazilian music. Elias is, as Jazziz magazine has called her, “a citizen of the world” and “an artist beyond category.”

In addition to the Grammy Award, Elias has taken her place in the pantheon of music giants as a four time “Gold Disc Award” recipient and three time winner of “Best Vocal Album” in Japan.  Other accolades include being recognized as a No. 1 artist in sales and radio in France and having all recordings reach top five on Billboard’s Jazz Charts and Jazz radio charts, with several reaching No. 1 on iTunes and Amazon.com.

The Associated Press reported, “She celebrates several generations of Brazilian composers, respecting the tradition while remaining thoroughly modern.”
