Davie, FL. - Named by Variety as one of the top nine films to watch at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, GAY CHORUS DEEP SOUTH is coming to Bailey Hall as part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Bailey Hall is hosting a screening with the filmmaker David Charles Rodrigues (director) who will participant in a Q&A with the audience following the screening about the film and their work. The public is invited to attend on September 19th, 2019 at 7:30pm.
Gay Chorus Deep South follows the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus as they tour the South bringing a message of music, love, and acceptance to communities and individuals confronting intolerance. For some of the 300 chorus members, this meant going back to the places that had once rejected them. The film takes viewers on a musical journey of discovery and reconciliation revealing a hopeful glimpse of a less divided America.
"When they were not singing," said the film's director David Charles Rodrigues, "we were all listening; to hundreds, if not thousands of people throughout the southern states. From local LGBTQ members to every single Christian denomination to the folks at Jefferson's Country Store in rural Alabama. Preconceived notions were challenged at every turn of this journey. As we traveled deeper into the South, a greater depth of place opened up. The lines between conservative and liberal, faith and sexuality, red and blue started to blur."
This event is made possible through the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, a South Arts program. Since its inception in 1975, Southern Circuit has brought some of best independent filmmakers and their films from around the country to communities throughout the South. The program is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Admission to the screening is $11 with special pricing at the Box Office for Broward College students and Faculty/Staff. Tickets can be purchased by phone at (954) 201-6884, online at www.baileyhall.org or in person at the Bailey Hall Box Office, 3501 SW Davie Road, Davie, FL 33314. (Broward College - A.
