Ignacio Berroa was born in Havana, Cuba to a musical family. He began his musical education at 11 on violin, but with a passion for drums. He ultimately studied at Cuba's acclaimed National Conservatory. By 1975, Ignacio had become Cuba's most prominent drummer. Initially, a great Afro-Cuban drummer, Ignacio developed an early affinity for jazz. The 1980 Mariel boatlift, landed him in New York City where he was soon introduced to Dizzy Gillespie, spending the next 10 years as Dizzy's drummer. But in addition, Ignacio has worked with a plethora of jazz legends, including, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Milt Jackson and numerous others. Of course, he also leads his own band.

On this date, Ignacio will narrate his documentary film Straight Ahead From Havana commencing at 7:30 PM, followed by a concert performance with his trio playing the music of the contemporaneous CD by the same name.
